SPRD helps Sisters get golf-ready
Warm weather and clear
skies have ushered in spring
earlier than usual in the high
desert, and to take advantage
of this mild weather, Sisters
Parks & Recreation District
(SPRD) and Aspen Lakes
have joined forces to bring
golf instruction to the Sisters
community.
Get Golf Ready is a pro-
gram designed for all ages,
and its aim is to bring golf to
the novice golfer. This intro-
ductory program starts with
the basics of the game to ori-
ent the new golfer into this
lifelong sport. Basic skills
and strokes are covered along
with the fundamental rules of
the game.
During the spring months,
there are four programs
offered over the course of
April and May. Mid-April
through May, Get Golf Ready,
Get Golf Ready for Players
55-plus, and Couples Golf
will meet one time per week
for six sessions. Depending
on the program, they start
Tuesday, Wednesday, or
Thursday, 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Participants pay $49 for the
six-lesson series and receive
professional instruction from
Aspen Lakes employees.
In addition, May is

women who want to take up

School district hires
exec search firm

The Sisters School District
has hired an Oregon execu-
tive search firm to assist in its
effort to hire a new superin-
tendent. Jim Golden has taken
the superintendent position in
the Greater Albany School
District.
The school board seeks to
have a new superintendent in
the saddle starting July 1.
The district is contracting
with Window To Leadership
(http://window2leadership.
com), a government lead-
ership training and execu-
tive search firm out of
West Linn, for $7,500 plus
expenses.
“They’ve done a lot of
this — including stealing
Jim from us for Albany,”
said school board chair Don
Hedrick with a chuckle.
“They’ve got contracts all
over. They will conduct all the
community meetings. They
believe in a heavy involve-
ment — as do we — of
community members…”
Hedrick said, “We hired
a superintendent search
firm because (hiring) a
superintendent is one of
the most important things
we do, and we want to do it
right.”
Community members will
get a chance for initial par-
ticipation in the process next
week.
The public is encouraged
to attend the next Sisters
School Board meeting on
Wednesday, April 8, at 6 p.m.
at the Sisters School District
office. Board members
would like the community’s
input regarding the qualities
and priorities for the new
superintendent.
A superintendent search
committee will be formed at
a later date, and community
members will be invited to
apply.
