Wednesday, March 25, 2015 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Girls lacrosse win at Crescent Valley By rongi Yost Correspondent The Lady Outlaws tallied a 10-7 win at Crescent Valley on Thursday, March 19, and are now 1-1 for the season. Sisters jumped out and scored quickly. Langley Vogt scored the Outlaws’ first goal in the first 15 seconds of the game, and Emily Ford and Jes- sica Edwards each knocked in a goal before the five-minute mark. The Outlaws pushed to a 4-0 lead before the Raiders were able to score their first goal at approximately eight minutes into the game. At the half, Sisters was on top 8-4. The Outlaws contin- ued their impressive play and rolled to the 10-7 victory. Vogt, Ford, Edwards and Jenny O’Connor each scored two goals for the Outlaws, and Bree Papworth had eight saves in the contest. Coach Mikaela Trott-Rick- ards told The Nugget that the defense had ‘glorious com- munication’ and double-and- triple-teamed the Raiders, forcing them out of shooting range, and smoothly sliding to cover players. “The Outlaws controlled passing and pacing of the pos- session of ball down in offen- sive set-up and were unself- ish in their play, with many assists and precise cuts into the 12-meter, which is where we saw many assists to goals,” said Trott-Rickards. Three days earlier the Out- laws lost to a tough South Salem (SS) team. At the half, Sisters was down 13-3. In the last fifteen minutes of play, the Outlaws came back and poured in six goals, and limited SS to two. Emily Ford, at attack, and Langley Vogt (center) both scored four goals for the Out- laws. Vogt also recorded nine draw-controls. Freshman Jes- sica Edwards scored her first varsity goal of the season. Marissa Young led the defense with her speed and intensity, caused two turn- overs, and had one draw-con- trol. Jenny O’Connor had three draw controls and one ground ball. Sierra Hummel was a key player in the game, and according to Coach Mikaela Kalin Emrich & Katie Crabb 541-549-2882 Home (PG) Iris DeMent with Pieta Brown One of the most beloved and respected writers and singers in American music. Trott-Rickards, led the defen- sive players with her strength and confidence. “She (Hummel) called doubles and stopped the ball from reaching the goal,” said Trott-Rickards. “Sierra, along with Mackenzie Hendrick- son, were a great pair on the defensive-end.” Taylor Schnedier assisted Ford in back-to-back goals while triple-teamed. Trott-Rickards told The Nugget that the player-of-the- game was sophomore Bree Papworth who saved 17 of South Salem’s 32 shots on goal. “She was sick during the game, but stuck through it,” said Trott-Rickards.
