of the last six days in which officials
and diplomats of Washington have
participated, lead tbem to believe that
peace between China and Japan will
be concluded at an early day. China
has at last reluctantly, but very fully,
admitted that she found herself wholly
unprepared for war. Japan, on the
olher hand, smilingly accepts this ac
knowledgment of her progress and
awaits a detailed proposition as to how
much China will concede as a basis

Japan demands too much or China
