The goblet out of which the emperor drrtrik nt tho banquet the other day at Wittenberg, nnd to which ho alluded, both ut tho beginning nnd nt the end of his speech, Is nt present in the possession of tho university of Greifswnld, which bought it for 140 thalcrs (twenty-one I pounds) from the family of a professor named Brockmnnn, in July, lBOl. It 13 a goblet of silver, with a lid. gilt all pver, nnd its gothio form and decora tions nro in pretty closo harmony with tho stylo usual in Germany about the year 10'JO. It is forty-five centimeters (17.7 inches) high, nnd twenty-eight centimeters (nbout eleven inches) in di ameter. It was carefully examined lately by an nuthority on such matters, Professor Lehsing, of Berlin, who pub lished tlio results of his- investigation. The part of the goblet intended for tho liquor is hammered in knobs, nr ranged in two rows of eight knobs each. It is twisted in nt the middlo, so that its circumference there is less than above and below. Tho lid also is hammered in knobs, the tops of which are bound together nnd taper into a slender twig crowned by a poincgianate. The high base shows Renaissance eat ores the chief of which i3 tho wreath of ucantlins leaves. , The goblet must have been made at Augsburg, for it bears the hilver btauip of that city tho pine cone.
