Striped ribbons from Ualrlin. to balf Inch
JnchwWtl. of white and a color are very
new and very ngly.
New tennis coate are of gay striped serge,
quite short, with fitted back, loo front and
deeply rolled collar.
Black lace dresses are now made up over
slips of shot silk, either moss green with rose,
pink with gray or red wfth blue.
Flowers are now mounted with their own
leaves, or ferns or grass, as the taste of the
moment is against the miiture of blossoms.
Close wreaths of roses, without leaves,
either quite upon the edge or half way the
brim, will be immensely stylish upon lace
spring bonnets.
Very few handkerchiefs have not merely n
colored border, but dots, blocks, bars and
rings, even pompadour bouquets rioting over
their whole surface.
Moire ribbons, though no longer the cream
ing crest upon the wave of style, hold their
own bravely, and are preferred by their dev
otees to any of the later confections.
Both liats anil bonnets grow larger though
architecturally their lines are so much of tho
last season's that the effect Is that of looking
backward through a magnifying glass.
Green, greener, greenest nre the tints of
the future and the hat or bonnet that es
capes n green bow, upholding a spray of
flowers, will be something in the nature of a
rarity.
Watered silk brocaded with big flowers
peonies, poppies and "ich" is a very high
Parisian novelty, but is used only for train
and panels, with the rest of the gown of rich
est plain silk.
Tips are worn a trifle longer, nnd even half
feathers circlo tho deep brims of somonow
hats, but they must bo of the lightest flufllost
description, or the oirect becomes top heavy
without end.
Canvas gowns shot blue and suedod havo
inch wide selvages on the full draperies of
their blurred skirts, nnd cuffs and vests
formed of alternate rows of narrow bluo uid
suedo ribbon.
New pompadour silks are printed in largo
designs and have so dull a surface that fivo
yards away thoy cannot bo told from cottons
indeed nre by no means so silky looking as
the fliio sateens.
Now basques havo pointed backs, stiffly
boned throughout, and though there is an
effort to trim sleeves into untidiness, tho
favorite mode is yet the natty folds, held by
closelv straimed bow.
Pointed capes of black cashmere, edged
with one or two deep frills of lace, tho point
held in place by a belt of watered ribbon,
will lie worn with spring gowns of all sorts
as the season advance.
Paris milliners aro just now making large
use of ribbon velvet and quilled gold lace,
but it is to be hoped they w ill think better of
it and not doom u to a whole season of such
eyo offending barburity.
Straw is the wonr liar excellence for spring
bonnets and motley tho huo thereof ruo
straw being colored to outdo Joseph's coat
and flny fancy woven j ollow Tuscans, mado
yellower tlmn tho law allows.
