G Watts, No Assessor was listed, but Ed Laws stated that Martin White was assessor in 1901, succeeded by Ed Law's father in 1902. County popula­ tion was 12,000 then, with 15 road districts and 310 miles of roads compared with 664 miles of road.; now in six districts. Then there were 56 bridges, compared with 232 now. Comparing costs of bridges, the Scappoose Creek bridge cost $1731 then, and $24.- 000 now. Judge Whipple stated that our present problems are housing and roads.
