A good vein of coal has been
encountered on the Spencer Butte
Coal & Petroleum company's
property, 10 miles southwest of
Eugene, and the company has
sent to Portland for additional
machinery to develope the mine.
The Republican state central
committee will meet for organiz
ation Wednesday, April 29, at 2
o'clock in the afternoon, at the
headquarters of the Multnomah
County central committee, in

land. A resolution indorsing William
H. Taft for the presidential

ing vote at the New Hampshire

Mayor Tom L. Johnson has
won his eight-year war for three
cent fares in Cleveland. The
victory came when the Cleve
land Electric Railway Company,
through F. H. Goff, its mediator,
offered to accept $55 a share for
its stock as the basis of settle
ment, the City Holding Company
to take over the stock.
