It looks as if the much dis
cussed "ice famine" will be
with us this summer. Soms of
the hardware merchants have
cancelled their orders for refri
gerators, as they claim there
will be no ice for sale in
math Falls this summer.
Beforethe City Council order

districts, it might be well to con
sider the matter carefully. It will
be found cheaper to adopt a sys
temtand putin the mainsalong cer
tain streets from which it
will bj most convsnient to run
laterals so as to cover the most
territory. The city has no
money to waste on improvements
and any made should be perma
nent. Klamath County is as well
equipped with a telephone sys
tem as probably any county in
the state. This convenience was
forcibly demonstrated Friday,
when the people of Merrill, 22
miles distance, discovered that
through an oversight they were
without poll books. This was
discovered about 12 o'clock,
when the poll should have open
ed. By the use of the phone
andamoter cycle, the supplies
were' on the ground only an hour
Klamath Falls is having as
difficult? a time enacting a dray
ordinance as the city of Port
land, Our Council has been
nearly ilKwinter and .up to , the
present" time passing an ordi
nance to its third reading and
now it is on the table. , There
seems to be some doubt as how
far J the proposed ordinance
reaches It is the opinion that
it would prevent contractors and
other parties' from hiring teams
by the month to do their haul
ing in the city, unless the teams
are licensed. If a man wanted
to hire his team , he. would have
to pay a Hceriie of 50 before
he would be allowed to do so.
