FOUR - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, April 19, 2017 Mustang golf continues to dominate green Team hosts Mustang Invitational this Friday The Heppner Mustang golf program has been busy the last couple of weeks with matches, and they have done very well. The Heppner girls’ team stayed undefeated on the season by winning tournaments in La Grande and John Day. The boys’ team also won the team title at the John Day tournament and finished third at the always tough Westside Christian tourna- ment held at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf course in Hill- sboro. The Mustang girls’ team shot a 393 at La Grande to take the team title. Sophie Grant finished second overall and led the team with a score of 90. Nicole Propheter was next with a 96 while Amanda Rea shot a 101 on the day. Madison Combe recorded a 106, Claire Grieb shot a 107 and Caitlyn Scrivner had a 109. Susie Cason also traveled and golfed for the Mustangs. The girls’ team also won the Grant Union In- vitational in John Day by shooting 426 as a team. The weather was not the best for a golf tournament, as it hailed several times and the 337. Logan Grieb was the first-place medalist for the tournament, shooting a 79. Dan Bretsch finished second with an outstanding round of 81. Logan Bur- right stepped up and fired a season best 88 for the Mus- tangs and freshman Kellen Grant followed with an 89. Other Heppner golfers who went and played were Jake Lindsay, Cason Mitchell, Reno Ferguson, Charles Cason, Casey Fletcher and Wyatt McNary. Several Mustang golf- ers traveled to Hillsboro to play the Pumpkin Ridge course. The team finished third at the invitational tour- nament that features some of the top individuals and teams from the west side of the state. Many of the top placers at the state golf tour- nament play in this event. The entire course was very wet and many places were so wet that they were unable to mow them. This meant that the rough was very tall and unforgiving. It was a struggle for all that played, but it was a great experience for the team to golf there. The Mustangs finished in third place with a team score of 369. That was only seven strokes out of the first-place score of 362 shot by Portland Adventist. Lo- gan Grieb finished in fifth place overall by shooting an 83. Kellen Grant was next with an 89 and Bretsch shot a 94. Lindsay rounded out the team score with a 102. This Friday the team will host several visiting schools at the Mustang Invitational. The tourna- ment will be held at Willow Creek Country Club and the action begins at 10 am. Mustang golf supporters are encouraged to come cheer on the team. high volleyball and girls’ basketball coach; Jolene O’Neal, RJSHS language arts teacher, end of school year; Lisa Pratt, RJSHS head cheer coach; Heather Stephens, SBE third-grade teacher, end of school year; non-renewal/dismissal, Natalie Ellett, SBE ed as- sistant; retirements-Rita Britt, HES ed assistant, PERS retiree, end of school year; Sharan Hendrickson, IJSHS PERS retiree, end of school year; employ- ment/promotions/trans- fers-Lisa Albrecht, online kindergarten-sixth grade teacher/seven-12 online academy advisor 2017-18, Amber Benetti, IES sixth grade teacher 2017-18, David Guss, ACH English Language Learner teacher 2017-18, Rachel Herron, IES Title I interventionist 2017-18, Pat King, RJSHS special ed teacher 2017-18, Victoria Lazareva, SBE K-third grade ELL teacher 2017-18, Theresa Proctor Reece, half-time “recent arriver” teacher, half-time English language devel- opment coach 2017-18, Mike Royer, IJSHS/HJSHS counselor 2017-18, Brandi Sweeney, district office maintenance coordina- tor, July 1, 2017, Robert Weems, WRE fifth grade teacher, 2017-18; extra duty contracts-Andrea Chairez, IJSHS assistant junior high track coach, Tiffany Lo- cey, IJSHS head junior high track coach, Richard Moore, IJSHS second as- sistant high school track coach. -approved the first read- ings of policies on head lice and legal names of students. -adopted resolutions on accepting and appropriat- ing unanticipated revenue for $10,000 from Good Shepherd to the Riverside High School track project; $7,500 from Wildhorse toward the RJSHS track project; and $2,659 from Good Shepherd from the IJSHS volleyball. -held an executive ses- sion concerning student expulsion. -received the following announcements: teacher appreciation week; May 8-12; make-up snow days for all schools, April 14 and 28; make up snow days for north end schools only, May 12; budget committee meeting, May 8, 5:30 p.m., Heppner Elementary; next board meeting, May 8, 7 p.m., Heppner Elementary. Snacks and warm bever- ages added to the enjoy- ment of the evening. Winners were: First place—Debbie and Dennis Peck; second place (tie)—Anita and Dave Pranger and Pat and John Edmundson.
