Work was resumdo at the Crown Point, in the Cable Cove district, this week. A coutract wa9 let for driving the lower tunnel 200 feet, which, according to surrey, will reiioh the main rein of the property at a depth of 050 feet. 1' F. HaJbee, one of the owners of tho Crowu Point, states that work is to bo prosecuted continuously during tho fall and winter mouths and that it Is the present plan to install a reduc tion plant early next season. The Crown Point is ono of the old Cable Core properties on which .a great deal of development work has been done, and from which some ore was shipped during its previous operation, but owing to high trans portation charges, and legal en tanglements, nothing has' been done for several years. The workings represent a distance of over 1,200 feet. There are fire tunnels in which there la a good grade of milling ore. ALL HOPE ABANDON. Veil Pleawd With Adcltne. Dr. J. II. Pollook, of New Castle, Pennsylvania, who is interested in the Adeleno group, orrired hero this week. In company with C. M. Mo Claron, general manager of tho com pany, ho returned from tho property. Ho states that he is well pleased. NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE. Suitable Inscription for Judge Allen's New Office. In view of the fact that Judgo Allen, the newly appointed' justice of the peaoe, is having an office fitted up under the direction 'and stage management of Barney Plynn, E. A. Case, the furniture man. has set about to devise an appropriate sign with which to label this headquarters of law and order. After much thought and a great deal of research into the musty omes of heraldry. Mr. Case thiuks he has hit upon a dovlce and inscriptions which are not only sufficiently t'omroheuxive but entirely apppllcable. He says: "Tho sign, horaldia devico or whatevor youv'o u mind to cull it, which I am having prepared for Judgo Allen's now office, will bear on u field sable, sinister, tho skull aud cross bones couohaut; doxter, death on a white horse, rampant, below which will be the words, that Duute, when following the shade of Virgil, saw emblazoned above tho doors of Hell: 'All Hopo Abandon, Vo Who Enter Hero,' which boiug freely in terpreted and upplied to tho cuso in baud, meaus that transgressors of tho 1 aw stand no more eliancotlian a bob fulled bologuu before a bull pup, or a pig's liver Iwforo his honor when ho sojourns in linker Citv. "For fear that tho entire signifi cance of this heraldic, yet entirely appropriate emblem, might not dawn on tho mull going by on h gulloplng horse, I am having a sign fixed out iu every day English to surmount the whole. This will read: 'Allen's Short Order Joint of' Justice.' " Rich Strike. Wm. Sexton whs in from Quartz burg on Thursday. Ho said that ho bad retlmbored his old shaft at the New Years (Sift, und was now ready to sink on tho ruluable oro. He brought a couplo of specimens of tho ore to this office, which looks us though it was half galena, and in which gold can bo seeu with the naked eye. The vein from which this was taken is only about ten inches wide, of which six inches is as rich as the specimen exhibited. He has one ton of this ore on the Notice of Acceptance of Improvement of Ornuito Street from the east Hue of Mill Street to tho west lino of Columbia. Notice is hereby given that C. II. Feuuor, City Engiueor of the City of Sumpter, did on tho 8th day of Sep tember, 1903, file with tho common counoil of the City of Sumpter, his written acceptance of tho work of tho contractors and of tho improvement on Urauito street from the east lino of Mill street to tho west Hue of Columbia street in Bald City. In conformity with tho provisions of tho City Charter, notice Is hereby given that said improvement has been completed aud accepted by the city engineer. That the 18th day of September, 1003, at the hour of seven o'clock P. M., at the City Hall of Sumpter, Baker County, Oregon, Is hereby fixed as tho time and place when and whore written objections to the ac ceptance of said work or Improve ment, or auy portion thereof, may be beaid, at which tlmo aud place any property owner liable for auy por tion of said improvement or any per son Interested therein may apppear and file his or their wrlttou objec tions to tho accoptauco of said work and Improvement or auy portion thoreof, und a heurlng will bo glvon regard lug tho sumo. That this notice is given pursuant to a resolution passed at n mcoting of tho common council of tho City of Smuptor on tho 8th day of Septem ber, 1003, and tho City Recorder was by said resolution ordered to publish said notice us aforesaid for one week.
