"Injun Evening" under the aus pices of the ladies' Lewis and Clark Club, of Independence was a delightful affair witnessed by a large audience at tha opera house Saturday evening. The entertainment was opened with a Hiawathan piano solo by Master Johnnie Stark, followed by an introductory address by Rev. Thompson of the Presbyterian church. The "Wooing of Hiwatha" was delivered bv Miss Burke and "Laughing Water," prettily render ed as a solo, by Mies Inez Stark. The male quartet consisting of Frank Mastereon, Win. Barnett, Wm. Walker and Mr. Burton made a hit in the rendition of the Indian song "Sohalla Close Illehee." Miss Sadie Cravens singing of "Ramona" brought an encore and her rendition of "The Owl aod the Moon" was no loss ilaHing. Miss Burtoa held the undivided atten- tion of the audience with the red- I tation of "Sucajawea" and Mrs. E. E. Paddock was called back, after singing "Saciijawea's Lullaby." "Ten Little Injuns" dressed as Siwashea convulsed the audience with laughter with their Hinging and comical maneuvers and had to reppond to an encore. Thone coin posing the juvenile tribe wore: Dick Babbitt. Ted Cooper, Johnnie Stark, Charlie Burton, Edward Ilartman, Kersey Eldri.lgo, Mau rice Butler, Leo Fluke, Jerome Reese, Olin Whiteaker and Johnnie Morgan. MrB. J. S. Cooper pre sided as master of ceremonies. After the literary feature, refresh ments were served by Indian maidens. The characters were all made up as Indians, and the novel ty of giving an Indian cast to the exercises proved a happy selection on the part of the ladies' of the club. A lONMlH'lil.
