Fully C000 people attended the Bpeaking at the Armory, and as many more were unable to gain admission to the hall Prominent Republicans from all parts of Oregon were in attendance, and enthusiasm ran high. The speakers were introduced by Senator John H Mitchell, and were accorded an ovation at the opening and closing of their talks. Both Senator Fairbanks and Sonator Dolliver have always been loyal friends of Oregon, and the peo ple of this state were glad of an opportunity to show their appreciation of this friendship. Senator Fairbanks delivered a thoughtful, scholarly ad dress, devoting his talk almost ex clusivoly to the great issues confront ing the people of the United States, He answered every Democratic argu ment worthy of an answer, and did it Id a pleasing and convincing way His talk throughout was that of an able and dignified statesman, and made a profouud impression upon the big audience. Senator Fairbanks avoids partisanship of the offensive sort, and makes votes for the Re publican ticket. Senator Dolliver folluwed with a pleasing speech, in which ho paid a high tribute to the State of Oregon for its unswerving loyalty to the principles of good gov ernmont. The meeting was a grand success, and while the result of the coming election in Oregon has never been in doubt, the visit of these two dijtinquished statesman will have the effect of adding many votes to the Republican majority in this state. Sonator Dolliver wa9 obliged to retire from the present tour at Portland, be ouuse of a cold and sore throat which Incapacitates him from speaking. His place was taken by Senator Fulton of Oregon, who will continue with the party during the remainder of the tour. GOES TO EASTERN OREGON N. As a result of the recent inspection by the Street Committee, the City Council will order forty or fifty new sidewalks built in Dallas at once. They will also serve notice 011 about seventy-five property owners to place the walks in front of their respective premises in a good state or repair within the next five days. The city will build several crosswalks, and will repair many of the old ones. These improvements are ordered at this time because they are needed, and for th further reason that little or no work of this kind can be done during the rainy winter months. The city can not afford to take any chances of ex pensive and troublesome damage suits on account of injuries caused by defective sidewalks. 1 FEW FICIS BEGIRDING 0STEOP4TH All Stuffed Up That's the condition of many sufferers from catarrh, especial!)1 in the morning.
