Meeting of the
City Council
The regular bi-monthly meeting of the
city council took place last night with
Mayor M- C. Crosby In the chair, ad
present Councllmen Welch, Webber,
O'Hara, Lewis, Thomson, Bergman
McGregor and Barker.
The roll was called and the , min
utes of the prevloos meeting read and
approved. ,
A petition for a liquor license for
Megler & Wright was granted
A communication - from Dr. M. JV
Walker In regard to his small-pox pa
tient bill was placed on file.
A number of other communications
were referred to appropriate commit
tees. ,
The quarterly report of the water
commission was referred to the city
attorney.
' Treasurer Wise and Auditor OHburn
mode their semi-annual reports.
An estimate from: the city surveyor
as to the probable cost of Improving
Elm street In Adair's Astoria, from
the wet side of Bonneville street to
the east boundary of the John Adair
D. L. C. was referred to the street
committee.
An Ordinance directing a notice to
be published of the filing of the ns-
sessment jroll number one, passed Its
second reading.
An ordinance appropriating jr.00 for
the benefit of Dr. M. M. Walker, passed
Its second reading.
A number of claims were ordered
paid. m
A resolution that the city surveyor be
instructed to report his recommenda
tion for grade on Ogden avenue from
Elm to First street Inclusive, was read
ud adopted-
A resolution that the city surveyor
be instructed to recommend a table of
grades for Second street In Adair's
Astoria was read and adopted-
A resolution that the Auditor and
police Judge be instructed to obtain
from the county the amount of the
property road tax to twhlch the city
is entitled, and pay the same Into the
treasury, was read and adopted.
A resolution that the city surveyor be
Instructed to prepare plans pnd esti
mate the cost of planking the John
Day's county road from Jack's Pktifch
bridge to the next bridge .bove, was
read and adopted.
A resolution that the proposition of
Warren, Joplln, Stevens and WHson,
to settle for the work done on Court
street In front of their props.-'y be ac
cepted by their paying tho cofta of
their suit in court, and the amount cue

fendants: By virtue of an execution and order
of sale Issued out of and under the seal
of the above entitled court In the above
entitled cause, on the 7th day of June,
1893, upon a judgment duly made and
rendered therein, on the 6th day of
June, 1893, which said execution and
order of sale was to me directed and
delivered, I did on the 26th day of
June, 1S93, levy upon all the right, -title,
claim and interest of the within named
defendants In and to the following
described real estate, to-wlt: Lots
numbered 4, 6, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of block 7,
and the undivided one-half interest In
lots 14 and 15. of block 10, all in the
town of Grand Rapids, as laid out and
recorded by the Grand Rapids Improve
ment and Development Company,
in the county of Clatsop and
state of Oregon, and I shall, on Wed
nesday, the 26th day of July, 1S93. at
the hour of 10 o'clock a. m. of said day,
in front of the county courthouse door,
in the dty of Astoria, in said county
and state, proceed to sell the same or
so much thereof as shall be sufficient
to satisfy the sum of Four Hundred
and Eighty Dollars (less the sum of
J60 realized on the sale of personal
property) together with Interest on the
Bum of J430 from the 24th day of
March. 1S93. at the rate of ten per cent
per annum, together with the further
sum of J50, attorney's fees, with Inter
est thereon, until paid, together with
the further sum of $56 costs and dis
bursements, and the accruing costs of
this suit, at publio auction to the high
est bidder for cash In hand in United
States gold coin at time of sale.
