Shalom is open Wednesdays from noon to 3 p.m.; the Resource Center is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be an optional tip jar at the dinner, with proceeds to be divided equally between Shalom, The Resource Center, Mapleton Food Share and the Mapleton Grange. Ham radio operators participate in 24-hour event June 27-28 Florence ham radio opera- tors will join thousands of amateur radio operators across the United States and Canada to demonstrate their effective- ness and proficiency in provid- ing critical communications after a catastrophic event, such as an earthquake or tsunami. On the weekend of June 27- 28, members of the Central Oregon Coast Amateur Radio Club will establish four ama- teur radio stations capable of communicating all over the world at Sutton Campground in group area A. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, local hams will operate these stations con- tinuously for 24 hours until Sunday, June 28, at 11 a.m. During that time they will communicate with other sta- tions in Canada, the United States and Oceania to test abil- ities, equipment and practices. This year the club will be assisting members of Troop 777 of the Boy Scouts of America to obtain their radio merit badges. This will be an educational experience for the members and for fire and police department staff, city staff and the community at large. Ukulele players to strum June 28 Florence Ukulele Club (The Flukes) will meet June 28, from 3 to 4 p.m. for a song cir- cle. The group meets in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library, 1460 Ninth St. Meetings are open to ukulele players of all levels and anyone interested in learning more about the club, as well as any- one who just wants to listen and/or sing along. FAHS Garden Tour held June 28 The Florence Area Humane Society will host its annual Tour of Gardens on Sunday, June 28, featuring five distinc- tive gardens in the Florence and Mapleton area. Tickets are $15 and now on sale at Mary Ann’s Natural Pet, On Your Feet with a Splash, Raining Cats and Dogs, the FAHS Shelter, Laurel Bay Gardens and Premier Landscaping. The tour will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A colorful glass garden art tree is being offered as the raf- fle prize. Tickets for this item are one for $3, four for $10 and eight for $20 and will be avail- able on Saturday during the monthly Hot Dog and Hamburger Sale at Grocery Outlet and at the gardens dur- ing the Tour of Gardens.
