SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 2015 Golf tourney, benefit to tee off at Ocean Dunes The Ocean Dunes Golf Club is holding a benefit tourna- ment for the Helping Hands Coalition. The event will take place Saturday, May 9, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. All the golfers entered in this tournament begin play at the same time. The tournament will benefit the Helping Hands Coalition which provides hot lunches, toiletries and other services to those in need in and around Florence. The tournament is open to the public and golfers of every level are encouraged to play. Teamwork will be key as this event is a four-person scram- ble. The Ocean Dunes Golf Links are located at 3345 Munsel Lake Road in Florence. The cost is $25. Non Members pay an addi- tional 39.95 green fee, which includes use of a golf cart. In the Frosh-Soph classifica- tion, Siuslaw got a trio of gold medals, with underclassmen Celie Mans winning the 3,000- meters (11:11.99), Carissa Oliver taking the discus (115- 06) and Destinie Tatum win- ning the 400-meter race (1:01.77). In addition, freshman Kaylee Graham had a standout day, setting a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles’ Frosh- Soph class at 51.79, earning her third place over all. Graham went on to claim fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.06). Though not originally scheduled to run a split in either of the relays, Graham stepped up for a fallen team- mate to debut in the Varsity 4x100-meter relay with Abby Watkins, Elyssa Rose and Hannahleah Jakobsen. Graham also ran a leg in the Frosh-Soph 4x400-meter relay, finishing first in 4:29.27 along with Watkins, Mans and Tatum.
