Siuslaw Public Library — The Siuslaw Public Library District wants
to help you go green. With thousands of items you can access for free,
you can learn to build your own solar cell or how to turn repurpose thrift
store finds. From books about greener building to salvaged art, from
cleaner cleaning supplies to environmental activism, we offer dozens of
books focused on greener living. You can also check out free e-books,
downloadable audiobooks, online articles and more. We even have a
meter that will help you monitor usage of electricity in your home and
cut back on over-consumption. Join us at our booth for two demonstra-
tions: “Upcycled Greeting Cards” at 11 a.m. and “Band Aids for Books”
at 2 p.m.
Siuslaw School Garden — The Siuslaw School Garden empowers
children to grow sustainably while building community connections. We
teach how to grow food and make healthy life style choices. It’s a won-
derful opportunity to bring together community members of all ages to
share their knowledge. The garden currently consists of 12 beds at the
elementary school and a self-operating cafeteria that provides meals
made with whole foods. Our future goal is to grow as much of that in our
gardens as possible. We are currently working on building more beds,
obtaining funding for a greenhouse, planning an orchard and berry
patch and gathering volunteers.
The Wren’s Nest is excited to be part of the 6th annual Florence
Green Fair and to bring our own unique reclaimed, repurposed and
“wren-o-vated” items to this great event. Come see the beautiful things
we’ve put together out of discarded and recycled junk.
