Vikings from 1C Even with the Pirates sink- ing four long 3-pointers in the opening period, shooting from juniors Reese Siegel and Preston Mitchell, along with rebounding from senior Joseph Dotson, was able to keep Siuslaw within five points, 17-12, entering the sec- ond period. But the Pirates continued to bombard the Vikings with a flurry of 3-pointers, sinking six more from deep in the field before the half to take a 43-21 lead by halftime — the last of which was a four-point play at the buzzer after sinking a long ball and drawing a charity shot on the play. Coming back from the break, the Vikings didn’t get any closer in the second half as the Marshfield, state’s eighth- ranked 4A team, went on to defeat Siuslaw, 73-48. The loss puts Siuslaw at 1-5 and in fifth place behind Bookings-Harbor and South Umpqua, which are tied for third at 3-3. North Bend, currently ranked No. 1 in the state at the 4A level, remains in first place and undefeated in both the Far West (6-0) and for the season (16-0). Marshfield, meanwhile is in second in the Far West at 5-1. Douglas is in sixth place at 0-6. Friday, Siuslaw will be back on the hardwood, this time on the road at South Umpqua to face the third-place Lancers. Tip-off for that game will be at 7:30 p.m., following the girls game, which tips off at 6 p.m. Last night, Siuslaw hosted third-place Brookings-Harbor (after press deadlines) for a chance to break up the third- place tie in the Far West.
