David H. Smith, who died Tues
day, at Fossil, was an Oregon
pioneer of 1847. He was bom in
Rhv county. Missouri, in Septem
ber, 182t'i. When 21 years of age
he came to Oregon, and fettled on
Howell Prairie Iu 187(1 he moved
to Extern Oregon, where he en
gaged in stock raising, which he
followed very successfully until
two years go, when he sold out
and retired from the business.
Later he wasaatackfd with cancer,
from the effect of wlrch he died
