Book Review: “Models Don’t Eat Chocolate Chip Cookies” by Erin Dionne. Erin Dionne’s “Models Don’t Eat Chocolate Chip Cookies” caught me by surprise as soon as I started reading. Her playful sense of humor shined through. She transforms topics that are usually dauntingly real, such as bully- ing, healthy eating, going to gym class and changing in front of others, relationship struggles between girls with their friends and family. I liked the main character, Celeste Harris, more toward the end than I did in the beginning. At first, I could not relate to her; my school years were nothing like hers. Celeste is unglamorous, wearing track pants and comfortable hoodies every day. Her signature chocolate chip cookies are her go-to snack. She never thought that in eighth grade she had to worry about all the fussy things high schoolers worry about. Celeste quickly learns she was wrong and that she has plenty of things to worry about. Her best friend since elementary school is being stolen by the popular Lively Carson and her Aunt Doreen talked her mother into pushing her to do something that she was mortified to do, which ends up pushing Celeste into starting Operation Skinny. What follows is a series of escapades horrifying, heartwarming and hilarious as Celeste tries to hold her head high both on the catwalk and off. She learns to show the world who she is from the inside out. This book is available at the Tribal Library.
