Faulty HVAC unit forces
lodge evacuation
A malfunctioning heating, ventila-
tion and air conditioning unit on the
roof of Spirit Mountain Lodge forced
the evacuation of guests on Sunday,
Sept. 11.
The report of smoke in an eleva-
tor shaft between 6:30 and 7 a.m.
prompted West Valley Fire District
to dispatch two engines and a water
tender to the lodge. Sheridan and
Amity fire districts also responded
with three rigs total.
As a safety precaution, 378 lodge
guests were evacuated and smoke
was detected on the fourth and fifth floors. Eventually, the source of smoke
was tracked to a malfunctioning HVAC unit on the roof. The smoke was
cleared and fire crews released.
There were no injuries.
Casino Facilities Director Ron Reibach said the culprit was a single motor
that cost about $300. It had already been replaced as of Monday, Sept. 12.
Casino Marketing Director Shawna Ridgebear said casino staff contacted
guests to ensure they were taken care of during the evacuation. 

What is an internship?
An internship (full-time/part-time) is a real-world experience
related to your career goals and interests. Internships can be what
helps you stand out in your job interviews after college. Most em-
ployers look for a combination of formal education and experience.
It may, but does not have to be related/connected to your aca-
demic major or minor.
Not only are you gaining valuable hands-on experience, you are
also networking and making connections to professionals in your
future career field. CTGR Higher Education encourages students
to explore internship opportunities to supplement their college
education. 
