"Spityay Spool" Consider the pro's and con's in decision
As the year draws to a close
we can look back and see what a
wonderful year this has been in
many ways. There is one thing
for certain. . .and thats what
ever happens the whole tribe
sticks together, no matter if it is
good or bad. I refer to bad as
when death or some tragedy
comes in a family.
This year Spilyay Tymoo has
had the opportunity to share a
lot of happy times with eve
ryone here in Warm Springs.
We also felt the bad times when
dear ones were lost to families
during the year, this is some
thing we cannot overlook.
On the brighter side of things,
earlier in the spring we were all
thrilled to s:e the kids win their
district championships and go
to the state tournament. . .both in the boys and girls basketball
teams. Something many schools can't do and thats to have both
teams in the state play-offs. During the year the youth take a lot of
attention which is just great. We saw the little league baseball team
go to district and the girls softball team play at the nationals in the
Tri-Cities area. The football team went further this year than ever
before.
We have a lot of things we can reflect back on. All the powwows,
the All-Indian rodoes, the fine accomplishments by the Tribal
Council during the year.
So at this time the entire Spilyay Tymoo staff would like to wish
everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous
New Year. : ' '''
My Dear People:
It has become my personal intent
as a candidate for Paiute Chief to
try to relate to you my goals and
how, with your help, I will try to
accomplish each, should I be selected
to represent you. Listed below are
some goals I would like to try and
accomplish with your help:
Goals: To gain and strengthen
our district's unity by attaining
satisfactory contributions from the
people of the Seekseequa District:
thereby, enabling council represen
tatives to work with the other Tribes
on common objectives for the bene
fit of all the people within the Con
federated Tribes of Warm Springs.
Objectives:
Provide and enhance com
munications of our ideas and opin
ions to our people and Tribal Coun
cil. Encourage our people to be
come active within the tribal or
ganization and government.
Accept the realities of being
constructively criticized, (and oth
erwise), and to understand and use
this as a learning tool.
To make reasonable personal
sacrifices.
To utilize my training and
experience in working directly with
people, for the benefit of the Con
federated Tribes.
I have six years' experience as a
Senior Citizen Representative. I am
a Community Health Representa
tive Advocate, (North Seattle
Community College).
It will be through these common
goals and objectives that I, as an
individual and a Councilman, would
try to represent you.
Through the guidance, teaching
and encouragement of ourclders, 1
have been fortunate to develop and
set goals that help me in making
decisions, which confront me daily.
I would like to add that I am able
( to comprehend well, and I am also
' able to speak out in public on top
ics that have been well thought out,
researched and prepared. I feel that
this a strong point in my behalf, for
it really is important to have good,
clear diction and oratory capabili
ties when addressing people.
I believe that a leader should be
patient, yet assertive, in being able
to represent all he stands for. In
providing for the best interests of
the people, a leader can only be as
good as his willingness to accept
guidance from his people and only
as good as his ability to contribute
for them.
In making your decision, I ask
that you consider the pro's and
con's of each candidate and cast
your ballot accordingly.
I respectfully thank you for your
support,
Wilson Wewa, Jr.

To the Editor,
The other day I stopped by my
daughter-in-law's house to pick up
my grandson, I was not aware
there were roofing tacks all over
the road.
Some one threw the tacks to get
even with another person. Well, I
was the person who ended up with
a problem from the tacks.
Trying to injure or hurt a person
by throwing tacks on the road
seems a disgusting way to get even
because others can be hurt who are
not involved. People should think
before they start acting so stupid
