A memo- rial service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Sun Ridge Retirement Community, 3234 S.W. Nye Ave. in Pendleton. Bill was the youngest of seven born to Clarence and Ethel (Keller) Reed on November 5, 1932. During his youth Bill worked at a local dairy and after graduating Reed from Boone High School in 1951, he joined the Navy. During his time in the Navy he was stationed in Hawaii and a short time in Tokyo where he served on an aircraft carrier as a postman. After being honorably discharged he met and married and they adopted two daughters. He moved to Minnesota to take a desk job for his employer, he found he was not an office person and soon left that for self-em- ployment as a candy vendor. The family enjoyed many vacations together, Bill’s favorite being Hawaii. He also enjoyed baseball games, gambling, golf, fishing and constructing model airplanes and cars. Later in his life he began writing fiction books (close friends and family provided much inspiration for characters). Once Bill retired he bought a lake home to share with friends and relatives. He also traveled, which brought him to visit his sisters in Sun City, Arizona. Now a single man, it was during one of these visits Bill met the love of his life, Jean. Shortly after meeting her he proclaimed to his sister that he was “going to marry that girl one day.” On March 10, 1998, in Reno, Nevada, the two were wed. Their living arrangements on a golf course year- round in Wood- burn, Oregon, and Surprise, Arizona, allowed for the two to indulge in all the golf they wanted. Bill also found a lot of joy as Jean played the piano and sang songs. They enjoyed all of the time they were able to spend together and among their family and in their travels together. He is preceded in death by four siblings, Charles (Betty) Reed, Robert (Francis) Reed, Fearl (Stanley) Richmond and Marie Seiler. Bill is survived by his siblings Donald (JoAnn) Reed and Marilyn Crohan; wife Jean (Turner-Runnion) Reed; children William (Kelly) Runnion, Steven (Vicki) Runnion, Todd Runnion, Janet (Ray) Koch, Teresa Strong and Barbara (Adam) Lofgren; 11 grand- children; five great-grand- children; and multiple nieces and nephews. Contributions in the memory of Bill may be made to Sun Ridge Adult Care Facility c/o Cheryl Newsom 2810 S.W. Nye Avenue, Pendleton, OR 97801 Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is handling the arrangements.
