the editor of the Medford Tribune j
was completely exonerated from con
viction In cr'mlnal libel, secured
against him bctore Circuit Court Judge
Hanna, In the opinion handed down:
today by Superior Court Justice Beau-!
The prosecution of Putnam grew
out of factional troubles over local
option at Medford. Mayor Reddy
was assaulted by a man with an ax,
and the grand Jury refused to Indict
his asasilant. Putnam's Tribune cen
fured the grand Jury. The same grand
jury Indicted him for libel. Putnam
was thrown Into Jail. At the trial,
testimony which the supreme court
in opinion of today says should not
have bsen accepted was excluded.

of seven years for the unknown mur
derer of Policeman Patrick Dnffy, of
the local force, the atuhoritles today
are In receipt of information that the
murderer Is Vincent ' Briscoe, who
served a sentence for burglary at San
Quentin, California, under the name
of Frank Bennett. It is alleged that
Bennett Is the man who shot and
killed Duffy when the latter search
ed a company of men on the street
suspected of burglary.
