The iirinclnal thiiiK ot interest lu
the market this week is the flood of
peaches that is coming into the city
trom the Milton country, and to a
lesser degiee from the Walla Walla
and Wallula orchards, mis is peach
seabou and thoro seems to ue plenty
of fruit to make It a good one. Ped

Peaches arc selling at 5 cents u
pound retail or from 45 to 05 cents a
box. The fruit Is of good (juallty,
large and will rank with the same
variety for other places that comes
iu to the country at any time of the
year.
Outside of tho fruit and grocery
lino there is not much of Interest,
though the prices of cattle have fal
len to a certain extent. Some time
ago it wns reported that the prices
at which young steers were selling
had dropped from $3.50 to $3.25 us
the bottom quotations nnd while this
may be so, it has not been as yet
borne out in practice for the least
that has been accepted iu the last
week Is $a,40, a drop of 10 cents.
While steers are plentiful and the
buyers seem to bo able to get wnat
they want, the growers aro not alto
gether nt their mercy and will not
ho for some time. Tho men who have
the cattle are not ui caking their
necks to unload on the market,
though they realize that the feed In
this section of the country is scarce
and that the fewer cattle they have
to feed, the better condition their
stock will bo when spring comes.
Tills holds good in most of tho cases,
though there are sonio of the growers
who have suRlcicnt feed engaged to
hold all of their cattle In good con
dition through tho winter mouths.
The meat market has fallen in part
and the buyers aro wanting it to fall
more, though no the other hand, the
growers are hoping that they will bo
