THE OREGON DAILY JOURNAL, PORTLAND, MONDAY EVENING, DECEMBER 8. 110. II CINNABAR STRIKE NEAR PRINEVILLE C. A. Patterson' Property Said to Havo Thirty-Sevan-Foot Vein in the Adit. NEEDS A FURNACE FOR THE DRIFT HEADINGS Very Rich Cross-cut of Nearly Five Hundred Feet En tered Large Vein. I Special Dispatch to Tbe Journal.) PTIrievllle, Or.. Dec. t. Recent de velopment In the mercury deposit 18 mile east of this city have been of an exceptionally favorable nature In the paat few weeks. C. A. Campbell of Portland, who Is the pioneer miner of cinnabar In this district, has come In from the property he Is working; and ays thst the main tunnel he has been driving has attained a length of 45" feet, and that the preaent face of It Is In a magnificent vein of quicksilver, work done until the present showing It to have a width of 17 feat. In the course of this tunnel several smaller velna were crosscut, but none of them had such ore as that being opened In thla vein. In 11 carloads of ore that have been brought out since Monday the owner ays the average values will run from three to 40 per cent mercury. The work done has merely crosscut the de posit and no time haa been had yet to drift. Mr. Patterson thought It was useless to continue taking out ore of uc'h richness without having some method of handling It when delivered at the mouth of the tunnel. If It Is left exposed, he thinks It will deteriorate, and he concluded to suspend work until some arrangement could be perfected to treat the ore. He has gone to Port land for the winter. PLANS TO REOPEN THE CRYSTAL CON. MINES (Special Dispatch to The Journal.' Cottage drove. Or.. Dec. t. U E. napp of Baltimore, one of the stock holders of the Crystal Consolidated Min ing company, haa been here during tue week. The company's financial re habilitation la assured In a few daya. and Mr. LJoyd says the assessment work on the seven segregated claims on the Noon day ridge and In the Champion canyon will be immediately begun, and a force of men put at work on the main group upon which stands the new mill Tba tunnels on the big lead will be extended all winter, while the finishing touches to the mill will be taken up in the early spring. HIGH GRADE ORE FROM MAYFLOWER TUNNELS Special Dtapatcbi to The Journal.) Bakes 04y, Pen Dee, ft. Iui eiuaji aV A. Wilson of the Mayflower mine, in the Cornucopia diatrlct. adjoining the Searlca properties, has arrived In the city with five tons of ore from the rich ledge re cently uncovered, and a number of Backs of concentrates from the mill test. The concentrates were from the low grade ore. but are aald to assay $320 The sacked ore that Mr. Wilson brought in s saraplea is said to run from $10 to f tOO to the ton. The ore has been turned ever to the Sumpter smelter, with whom a contract hsa been made for the future product of the mine. "We are now working In the tunnel of the is 5 foot level, drifting on the ledge," said Mr. Wilson. "The vein la about five feet wide, and the ore aver ages high. We are running the lowest grade ores through the mill and Backing high grade, We expect to put on a force of men in a few days and begin work on the tunnel on the 800-foot level. It la the plan to develop the prop erty as rapidly aa possible. No sloping Is being done now, and none will be done until development work la finished." The Mayflower waa recently purchaaed by the Cascade Mining Co. of Tacoma, George W. Hoggs, manager. RICH SURFACE ORES FROM ALASKA CLAIMS Igperlal Dlapatch to The Journal i Lewlston. Idaho, Dec. S. I.ouls Dahl recently received a check from the Ta coma smelter for 174.47. which repre sents his share of a ahlpment of 36$ pounds of ore. after $8 treatment charges hsd been deducted. The ore came from the claims Mr. Dahl recently purchased at the head of Bangard creek. 17 miles from Nome City, Alaska, for himself. Frank Brown and Chris Olsen. There Is no work on the clsims, the 3$ pounds of ore having come from the ' surface. Mr. Dahl could not find an assay office In the north to test his ore, but being confident thst It would run $30 HAD TO HIDE IT A mother wrote us recently that she had to keep Scott's Emulsion under lock and key her children used to drink it whenever her back was turned. Strange that children should like something that is so good for them. It's usu ally the other way. Scott's Emulsion makes children comfortable, makes them fat and rosy-cheeked. Perhaps that's why they like it so much they know it makes them feel good. Wl aasd yes a saaaals, tree C0TT SOWN I, Pearl Sweat. Mew Teak. CITY NOTICES.
