Will Sheep Pay? Gr. TV. Hawver of this town ship has demonstrated the fact that a small number of sheep can be profitably handled on most farms, or at least wherever there are conveniences and the dispositon to take care for them. Commencing sometime in Jan nary, he purchased from time to time, as opportunity presentd, until he had a flock of fifty three. The lambs dropped numbered thirty-seven, and the wool-clip weiged 446 i pounds, which was sold for 24 cents per pound, amounting to $107 1G. The lambs he can sell from time to time, and with the price received for them and the wool he estimates h will have within $16 of the amount the 53 sheep cost him, and he will have the full number on hand. He was careful in his purchases, buy ing only those he wanted, and paying for a few as high as $5 per head. We would like to hear irom some more of our sheep raisers as to their experi ences, not only concerning the profits, but also regarding care, etc. Exchange. The Price Paid. We learn that the price paid for the New Market Theater block was $200,000, $50,000 in money and other jn-operty considered by both parties to be woth $150,000. The various leases in the central market will ex pire iu October, when the place will be cleared of all superflu ous material and be occupied by the large agricultural house of Knapp, Burrel & Co. It will make the largest and most com modious store in Portland. Oregonian. Sarah Bernhardt, the actress, is unreasonably thin, and when a French paper wants to be funny about her, here's the way it goes to work ''An empty carriage stops, and who is it steps out? Sarah Bernhardt.5' The editor of an Iowa paper being asked, "Do hog pay?" says that a good many do not; that they take the paper several years and then have the post master send it back ''refused."
