cently made a survey of the channel
between the mouth of the Willamet
te and Vancouver. His report shows
a minimum depth at zero of about 11
feet on the bars. The project for
neepening or the channel calls for
a minimum depth of 20 feet and
the Oregon will work on the bars un
til the requirements of the project
are fulfilled. Funds for the work
were granted In the last appropria
tion for river and harbor work.
"With a 20-feet channel between
the mouth of the Willamette and
Vancouver ocean steamers will be
able to proceed to the Washington
port and load full cargoes of lumber."
