The policy of the Coos Bay TIju-s
will be Republican in politics, with
the independence of which Fresl.iunt
Roosevelt is the leading exponent.
TEN REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD
TRADE WITH COOS RAY
MERCHANTS.
Because: You examine your pur
chase and are assured of satisfaction
before investing your money.
Because: Your home merchant is
always ready and willing to make
right any error or any defective arti
cle purchased of him.
Because: When you are sick or
lor any reason it is necessary for you
to ask for credit, you can go to the
local merchant. Could you ask It of
a mail order house?
Because: If a merchant is will
ing to extend you credit you should
give him the benefit of your cash
.trade.
Because: Your home merchant
pays local taxes and exerts every ef
fort to build and better your mar
ket, thus increasing the values of
both city and country property.
Because: The mail order mer-
chnnt does not lighten your tax or
in any way help the value of your
property.
Because: The mall order mer-
chant does nothing for the benefit of I
markets or real estate values.
Because: "If your town is good
enough to live in it is good enough to
spend your money in." Governor
Folk, of Missouri.
Because: The best citizens in
your community patronize homo in
dustry. Why not be one of the best
citizens?
Because: If you will give your
home merchant an opportunity to
compete, by bringing your order to
him in quantities you buy out of
-town, he will demonstrate that, qual
ity considered, ho will save you mon

KNOCK IT'S
GAME.
A, FOOL'S
Some one said to the writer the
other day: "Why don't you go after
the real estate men. They are hurt
ing the country." Continuing he
said: "If a stranger goes to Smith
and asks Smith to show him a farm
or a lot or business property and
tho same does not suit and the
stranger does not buy from Smith,
tho stranger never gets away with
out hearing an awful roast for tho
property listed and for sale by ev
ery other real estate man. If Brown
or Jones or somo other fellow first
gets tho stranger the story Is tho
Bamo. Every man in the business is
doing tho samo thing. To tho last
man each is trying to beat tho other
follow out of a sale and as a result
tho wholo country Is getting a black
cyo in the minds of many people who
aro looking for locations."
If Coos Bay is harboring any such
peanut venders of real estate there
Is not much uso of going after thorn,
for they aro impervious to reason or
appeals to patriotism. It is to bo
hoped that tho man who thus llbols
the real estato dealer Is misinformed
:No class of men come in contact with
more seokers of new homes than tho
land men nnd they should bo broad
enough to realizo tho necessity of
boosting tho country oven though
they do not soil every prospective
customer they meet. If somo one
in Coos Bay or in tho Coquillo val
?ley sells a farm to overy nowcomor
avory pieco of land In tho Bay or
Vnlloy will in time feel tho stimulus
given by an nctivo nnd rising market.
Knocking never sold anything,
novor boosted values or mado any
body rich or happy and If it is being
practiced horo wo should have a re
form or a now brand of real estato
salesmanship. Probably howovor, re
ports of Its provalonce aro exaggerated.

GEO. WASHINGTON.
When You Are Gone.
The sun will rise and set the same,
Men will work and strive for fame,
Forgotten soon will be your name,
When you are gone.
Flowers will blossom in the spring,
And silvery wood notes loudly ring,
As feathered warblers sweetly sing,
When you are gone.
Friends will grieve about your bier,
And on your grave will drop a tear,
You'll be forgotten in a year,
When you are gone.
Above you ever and anon,
Will pass the long years, one by one,
Remorseless time sweep on and on,
When you are gone.
And millions yet will follow thee,
Gray age, glad youth and infancy,
Will join you in eterinty,
When you are gone.
The cradle, coffin, and the grave,
Will hold alike the king and slave,
The proud, the humble, and the
brave,
When you are gone.
Age will mourn, and youth will
laugh,
One-half will give the other half
A tear, a tomb, an epitaph,
When you are gone.
