j BEER PROMOTES
Temperance
Recognized as a Food Product, and so dealt with
by the Government
it ic liPtnir iwnirnized the world over that the drinking of beer
nromotes temperance and sobriety to a far greater extent than all
the prohibition laws on the statute books.
All enlightened European nations aro encouraging me manu
fnotnro nnH nnnaiiinntlon of licht beers containing about three and
one-half per cent alcohol, and the result has been most gratifying
to all sincere lovers of temperance.
Thn TTnitoH states covernment has taken a positive stand in
this direction, the war department holding that the re-establishing
of the army canteen for the sale of beer being an absolute neces
sity In the Interest of temperance and sobriety.
Beer is today recognized a& a "Food Product," anu is so aean
with by the government.
All the great Insurance companies nave contraaictea me lies
that have been given currency through prohibition sources that
, j.inMni nt hAF wn a bar to securing insurance, and have
lately published to the world at large the statement that those
drlnklnc beer moderately (not more man two quarts during iweu-
ty-four hours) were tho very best of risks. The latest British life
insurance reports show that the ratio of death rate among aDstain
ers is thirty per cent greater than among moderate drinkers.
Beer la pure and wholesome, and tho day is not far distant
when it will be aB much a part of the dally subsistence of every fam
ily as are milk, bread and other food necessities.
WEINHARD'S BOTTLED BEER
' Is the perfection of brewing. It is in every sense tho very best
that modern enterprise can produce. It makes tho "finest table beer.
It epeake for itself and Is Its ownbest advertisement.

H. R. Bevler, proprietor of tho
North Bond Gas Engine Works, is
now turning out a now model engine
that is declared by those who have
seen It to excel anything now In uso
on tho bay. It Is especially devised
for uso in boats and launches, provi
sion being made for casing It in.
a water tight compartment so that
It will not bo harmed by waves wash
ing over the boat.
Mr. Bevler now has one on exhibi
tion at his shops at tho old North
Bend woolen mills. Several have al
ready been ordored and he has a
largo force of men busy turning them
out. With the exception of a few
brass parts, the engine Is entirely
manufactured at homo.
The crank hanger runs In oil which
lubricates the cylinder at tho samo
time. A "climber" makes it posslblo
to have any speed from 750 to 2000
revolutions per minute by merely
moving a lever, which if thrown
across tho center, reverses tho en
gine. Mr. Bevler claims that his engino
will run a 14-lnch propeller 200 re
volutions per minute faster than any-
other machine of tho samo horse
power on the bay. Ho states that
castorn firms in demonstrating their
machines use a propeller having a
low pitch In the blades which gives
rapidity of motion to tho wheel but
not a corresponding lncreaso of speed.
Among tho ones ordered of hlift
thoro aro three slnglo cylinder, on'o
two-cylinder and one eighteen horse
power, three-cylinder engines.
