Messrs. Bloon and Chase returned
to their home in Mendocino county,
California, yesterday after having
visited for some tlmo on Coos Bay.
Dr. May Vanderburg, who has been
in Dr. Leslie's office for the greater
part of the summer, has returned to
San Francisco to resume her prac
tice with her brother.
Miss Ella Relnley of Everett,
Wash., Is visiting with friends in
Bandon. On her return to this city
Miss Relnley will remain for a few
days and then return to her home af
ter a two months' absence.
Miss Enid Arley returned yester
day from a business trip to Bandon.
Upon her arrival in this city Miss
Arley made immediate preparations
for a fishing trip up North Inlet,
leaving last night at 7:30.
Mr. Clifton Lea arrived in this city
late last night .from Coos River
where he has been visiting for a few
days. Today Mr. Lea leaves on a
hunting trip In the mountains sur
rounding Smith's Basin.
Misses Ida and Lizzie Wabbly
were the guests of friends in this
city for the last week. Yesterday
they left here for a short stay at
Bandon.
Mrs. W. M. Hugo of Columbus, O.,
after having visited in Marshfleld for
a few days left yesterday for the
sound cities where she will remain
through the winter.
Mr. W. B. Smith, an Illinois capi
talist, has been visiting with rela
tives on Coos Bay for a few weeks.
Mr. Smith leaves today for Roseburg
after having made several invest
ments on the bay. From Roseburg
ho will go to Denver and return hero
for the holidays.

time past my business time has been
all taken up with my abstract and
real estato plant, I have concluded to
retire from the drug business and
havo sold ray entire drug business to
Mr. C. D. McArthur, an experienced
pharmacist from Boise, Idaho. I
take this method of thanking my
patrons for their long and con
tinued patronage and Inasmuch as I
have left the business in such compe
tent hands I would like to see my
friends and patrons to continue doing
business at the old stand with Mr.
McArthur, as I know ho will treat

The new brick machine, for which
the brickmakers on J. A. Smith'
place have been waiting so long, has
at last arrived. It Is being set up
now and Mr. Dexter expects to have
it in operation within few day?.
Mrs. Guplyl, who has been very
sick, is improving and though she

Mrs. M. D. Cutllp has gone to
Bandon to visit her sister, Miss Ber
tha Wllkins.
L. S. Smith's family, who havo
been visiting friends at Arago, re
turned homo last week.
Frank Rogers and Ernest smith are
taking an elk hunt In the moun
tains. Miss Leno Woodward of Arago,
who. has been visiting Miss Annio
Smith of Coos River for several days,
went on the Plant to San Francisco.
She expects to attend school In Oak
land this winter.
Mrs. H. H. Rogers and her daugh
ter, Miss Mildred, have gone to San
Francisco, where Miss Rogers will
resume her study of music.
Tho Daniels Creek school opened
Sept. 30 with Mr. Goetz as teacher,
and with an enrollment of nineteen
pupils.
Mr. E. R. Jones of Daniels creek
went to Myrtle Point Friday on busi
ness. Mr. Jones has sold his place
on the creek to Mr. Guy Chambers,
who, with his mother, took charge
of it last week.

FIGHT AGAINST THE
GREEKS TO BE PUSHED
Federal Officials Will Push the Cases
Against Greek Pa-
droncs.
Chicago, Oct. 7. With more than
20 cases against Greeks who are
charged with violations of the immi
gration laws now ready for presen
tation to the federal grand jury next
week, Assistant District Attorney
Seward S. Shlrer and Immigration
Inspector A. A. Seraphic will en
deavor through the agency of the
grand jury inquiry, to bring to a cli
max their fight against the padrone
system in Chicago, which has been
for several months tho subject of in
vestigation.
It is expected that the Greek In
vestigation will take up three days
next week, beginning Tuesday. In
dictments are expected in all cases
to be presented.
All prosecutions will be based on
evidence showing that the men to be
prosecuted brought children to the
United States from Greece under
false representations, making false
affidavits to the effect, In most cases,
that the imported aliens were sons or
daughters, when they were not of
kin. Tho most flagrant cases have
been those of tho proprietors of the
bootblack stands.
