TIIE DAILY COOS BAT TIMES, MAHSIIFIiaD, OnEGOX, THURSDAY, MAY 10, 1007. APIS fill WIRELESS POST feorge Hanscom of U. S. Navy Has just Completed Construction of $46,000 Station HIRD FOR COAST fourth Is to He Installed Iinmcdi- . utcly In AlaRka by tlic Govnrmnciit. Georgo E. HanScom, in chargo of ho equipment department of the Jnlted States navy at Mare Island, las Just returned from Cape Blanco, vhere he has finished the construc- lon of tho third wireless station on he Pacific coast, at a cost to the gov- rnment of $4G,000. Mr. Hanscom iassed through Mnrshfleld on his ,ay to San Francisco, from which ilace he will proceed to Alaska, vhere the fourth wireless station on he coast Is to be Installed by himself :ind force of men. Tho station just installed at Cape lanco Is on the most westerly point f the United States, and has been constructed at a great cost on ac count of the difficulty experienced In securing supplies and having them transported to the location of the Station. The two masts that have been erected at this station are 200 feet high, and cost $10,000 to erect. The station has been left In the hands of the operators and is in per fect working order with the Mare Island station. The instruments used at Capo Blanco are tuned to 450 meters base at present, ready ror ordinary use, but are so arranged that when other stations are working at the same time they can be switched to the next base, which is COO meters, thus en abling more than two stations to operate at the same time, without in terference. Vessels off shore, and equipped with wireless plants, can communicate with the Blanco sta tion, but at no time will the. stations be used for commercial business, navy department business alone be ing transacted. In time of war the instruments will be tuned to a secret base that no one, outside the service, knows any thing about. The wireless station will be con nected by telephone with the Pacific States Telephono company from Port Orford Just as boom as the line can be constructed. L. R. Robertson, lo cal manager for tho Pacific States Telephone company, intends to visit the station In the near future. Mr. Hanscom and party left over land for Drain, from which place they will go to San Francisco before going to Alaska to Install the station there. MEXICO OBDURATE. Apparently Indifferent to Gunte nialft's Offer of Peace. Mexico City, May 14. Guatemala has receded from her position in tho Lima matter and President Cabrera expresses his willingness to have General Lima, charged with com plicity in the assassination of General Barrlllas, tried in 'Guatemala. Mex ico has replied coldly to all overtures. Her last note Intimates that Ca brera's offer has come too late. DEVELOPMENT S III THE COURTS Ruef Draws Small Crowd San Francisco May 15.
