EIjECTRIO line.
Along with the cities on Coos Bay
the towns of Myrtle Point, CoqulUe
and Bandon have taken favorable ac
tion toward tho proposed electric
lino between Roseburg and Coos
Bay. Committees have been ap
appolnted for the purpose of meeting
in conjunction with similar bodies
from tho other towns Interested.
People will follow with interest
this third attempt toward tho con
necting of tho most fertile part of
Oregon with Coos Bay. There is no
question regarding the value of the
line to tho portion of the country
through which It will act as a means
of transportation toward Oregon's
southwestern outlet.
Tho two first attempts did not ma
terialize because the country had not
reached the present state of develop
ment. Between one and two million
dollars Is given as nn approximate
estimate of tho cost of construction.
It is for the purpose of formulating
plans for tho raising of tho required
funds that the committees are or
ganized. SPRING ARRIVES.
Springtime has arrived on Coos
Bay and tho tributary streams, and
luxuriant nature spots hold out irre
sfstable Invitations. Pen pictures of
spring's debut fall lumentably short.

i The fascination of fishing seems
to have taken hold of many. Even
, our strenuous president would find
, pleasure in the angling sport around
Coos Bay. From the unlimited store
of halibut, royal salmon, sllversldes
' and steelheads, there are but few
periods of rest for the angler's hook.
"CLEAX-U1"' DAY.
Every citizen of Marshfleld owes
it to himself to rally to Mayor
Straw's support on Friday, May 10,
for a general cleaning up day of the
I city. That action In the matter is
' needed badly thero is no question.
I The ideal weather which is now be
ing experienced renders tho time
most opportune. Governor Cham
berlain is to visit the bay next week,
and of course Marshfleld will wish to
present a spick and span appear
ance.
The city will sta.ic the expense of
carting away the rubbish which is
collected. The citizens are asked to
deposit it In the middle of the street
to enable the' wagons to gather It
expeditiously.
If every individual will exert his
or her most willing efforts, the city
will be gone over by a united band
of co-workers on Friday that will
place Marshfleld side by side with
"Spotless Town."
AVIIjIj ELECT PRESIDENT.
Progress Chili Will Hold Annual
Election.
The regular weekly meeting of the
Progress club was held yesterday af
ternoon at the home of Mrs. P. C.
Levar. The meeting was an interest
ing one, the program being a history
of the Jamestown exposition and the
founding of that city. The next meet
ing will be held Tuesday afternoon
at the home of Mrs. J. W. Bennett.
This meeting is an important one, as
tho annual election or officers will be
held at that time.
The election will result In a new
president, as Mrs. H. Sengstacken,
who has so ably filled that position
for the past term, has announced that
she will not be a candidate for re
election. There may be one other
