17,1901, Mrs. Amanda Ball, aged OS
years, of general debility.
Mrs. Ball was a pioneer of this state
and county. In 1S52 sbd came to Ore
gon across the plains from Iowa with
her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. J. Chapman, of this county.
Mrs. Ball's maiden name was Eels.
She resided with Mr. and Mrs. Chap
man on their donation land claim,
which the former took up fourteen miles!
east of Roseburg, until her marriage to
Zachariah Ball, of Canyonville, at which
place she resided up to Uie time of her
death. Mr. Ball died about eix years
ago.
Mrs. Ball is survived by two brothers,
two sisters, two sons, three daughters
and several grand children. One of the
sisters is Mrs. E. J. Chapman, of Rose
btirg ; the other sister and two brothora
reside in Iowa. The children areas
follows: Lorenzo and Sam Ball, of Rid
die; Mrs. J. R. Gillain, ol G.ilesville,
and Mrs. J. H. Brown and Mrs. Wm
Briggs, jr. of Canyonville.
Mrs. Ball was a member of the De
gree o( Honor and Eastern Star lodges
of Canyonville. The funeral took placo
there Fridjy, Rev. Zimmerman official
ins. The body was laid to reit beside
that of her deceased husdand.
The death of this most estimable lady
marks the passing of another oft'tote
honored pioueer woman who shared in
the rigorous hardships attendant upou
the unbuilding of our 6tate. By both
relatives and friends alike her memory
