The first Sunday in December is mem orial day to be observed all over the United States and Canada by the order of Elk). In these memorial days the dad are remembered with eulogies, their virtues extoled and their faults covered with a mantle of charity. Their motto is: "Lit our bro'her's faults be written in the sand and their virtures on the tablets of love and justice." We should not look for perfection in any human organization or social bio'.herhood so long as man's nature remains imperfect, but any organization having its aim directed to und fixed upon a perfect ideal teuds to elevate the tout and bring it into harmony with the pnre and beautiful, and leads the mind to the contemplation of better thiegs than when left to itself. So while tho order of Elks with the beautiful and in spiring motto quoted above may still be linctnred with the imperfections com men to our imperfect natures it cannot but have a happy and beneficieut in tlnence among its members. The mem' cry of its honored dead and fraternal care for its living members and the cultivation of friendship among and for all mankind is one of tho noblest eenti merits of man. The cultivation of friendship, charity, brotherly love and justice are ideals to which the Elks look, and for which they labor and hold up in their lodge meet ing a; the star of hopo and an expects tion of ultimate realization in the sweet bye and bye.
