JACKSONVILLE,
STATE A XI) SCHOOL LAXDS.
From tbo American UulonUt.
From an artielo published in tlio Ort

infer the people of Jackson county are
anxiouE to liavo tlic Klamath Lake
country settled nt an earlv- day. We
also conclude from the nrticlc above
referred to which will bo found in an
other column the folks in Southern
Oregon, nnd perhaps elsewhere in the
State, arc at n loss to know how xo
proceed in order to purchnso and get a
title to the lands belonging to-'the
State. Iu making application for State
lands, it is well to bear in mind that
the Oregon State lands consists of
five classes:
1st. The school lands, consisting of
tho 10th and 32d sections in each toxvn
ship. 2d. The lnnds selected by the State
in lieu of the 10th nnd 32d sections, in
cases x-hero donation claims were lo
cated upon t-aid sections previous to
the United States Surveys. This lat
ter class is technically teitucd "indem
nity" land.
3d. The grant of five hundred thou
sand acres given to the State by the
General Government for internal im
provements, under the net of Congress
passed iu 1811, donating land to the
Statu of Aikausas, and subsequently
' oxtcudetl toall nexv State.
