Page 8 August 12, 2015 S ports Hall of Famer Visit Saturday NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott will be welcomed to Beaverton for an ath- letic leadership clinic for foster youth and students from the St. Mary’s Home for Boys on Saturday, Aug. 15. The clinic, sponsored by The Other Side of Basketball and All Stars Help- ing Kids, will offer youth a chance to learn about how athletics, academics, and good citizenship can play a role in furthering their futures. In addition to the clinic, Lott will conduct a 90-minute social session emceed by Beaverton Mayor Den- ny Doyle. Lott will share stories, meet guests, sign autographs, and take pictures. This will be limit- ed to 50 people. A barbecue lunch will be provided by Cook Securi- ty Group during the social session. Sponsor tickets to the social session are $250. Participating youth will at- tend for free. Forging a Path on the Court Mike Holton Jr. signs contract Mike Holton Jr. of Portland, has signed a professional contract to play basketball in Europe after turning in an extraordinary career at Saint Mi- chael’s College in Vermont. The son of former Portland Trail Blazer Michael Holton Sr. and a former basketball standout at Sunset High School in Beaver- ton, he forged his own path to be- come the 5 th highest scorer at St. Michael’s. The 6-foot-1 guard was the only player in school history with four 400-point seasons. He was named Northeast-10 Confer- ence All-Conference three times. Holton Jr. signed his first pro- fessional contract on July 23 to play with the Kapfenberg Bulls, one of the most successful teams of recent in the Austrian Basket- ball League, according to school officials. Kapfenberg is located southwest of the Austrian capital city of Vienna. Holton was scheduled to join the team this month in advance of a season that begins in September and runs until April.
