A classical Chinese dance
troupe comes to Keller Au-
ditorium for performances,
Friday, March 27 through
Sunday, March 29.
Shen Yun is a non-prof-
it and independent dance
troupe that showcases per-
formance art that was un-
available in China for near-
ly 60 years because of the
Cultural Revolution. Danc-
ers and artists who fled the
country found themselves
wanting to preserve this
threatened cultural tradition,
and in 2006, a group of lead-
ing classical Chinese artists
came together in New York
with one wish: to revive the
true, divinely inspired cul-
ture of China and share it
with the world. This was the
beginning of Shen Yun Per-
forming Arts.
Drawing top talent from
around the world, many of
its artists are winners of in-
ternational competitions in
dance, choreography, and
music. Now in their eighth
year of performing, the
dance company travels for
about six months every year,
now having performed in 20
countries and 100 cities.
