31'EWEX'S SUCCESS.
JJamous Hypnotist, Mlnilrcader and
Entertainer Pleases Audience.
The great McEwen began an engage
ment of one -week at the Marquam Grand
thoator last night, to an audience that
laughed themselves almost sick, and it
was only McEwon's kindness in dividing
the entertainment into three parts that
"saved them from this ordeal. This clever
magician-mlndreader.hypnotlst and enter
tainer has proved himself the best bo
fore the public, and can rightly be called
groat. He mystifies, bewilders and amuses
you. If you are Booking for an evening's
ontertainment that will not only amuse
but furnish you food for thought, see Mo
Ewon. Miss Irene Franklin, the world's
greatest lady cornet soloist, played sev
eral selections most admirably, her tone
and oxecution showing years of patient
study and practice.
MoEwon will be the bill all week, and
it is more than likely that the Marquam
will continue to hold the same large
crowds that have been attending Kolb
& Dill. The bill is changed every night.
"THE GIRD AXD THE JUDGE"
Another Tremendous Hit Scored by
the Bclasco Dast Night.
Was it a hit? "Well, was It? Ask
anybody who witnessed last night's
beautiful performance of Clyde Fitch's
graat play "The Girl and the Judge," by
the Bolasoo Stock Company. Will Wall
ing, the new leading man simply car
ried the audience by storm and prom
ises to become the most popular man
who has ever worked here In stock.
The play g-ave him a fine opportunity
to show his mettle and he had his own
way all evening. The res.t of the com
pany, particularly Miss Moore, were
admirable. The "Girl and the Judge"
is beautifully mounted and dressed and
will probably break all records for at
tendance at the Belasco. In spite of
the circus there was a crowded house
last night and the sale for the ensu
ing performances is already very
large. Don't miss the host show of the
season.
Perilous Feat at "The Oaks."
Jocko Waldo, the famous high divor
and champion of the United States,
has been secured bjvthe Oregon Water
Power & Railway Company to make
a, perilous dive every afternoon at 3
o'clock and every night at 9 o'clock
from one of the cars of the giant
whirl flying machine while the ma
chine is traveling at the speed of seven
miles an hour. As the whirl is built out
on the Willamette a considerable dis
tance, the dive Mr. Waldo makes is 120
feot high. Only those -who have wit
nessed the wonderful revolutions made
by the giant whirl while in motion can
possibly appreciate the terrifying dive
and groat risk Mr. Waldo takes In
performing' this feat.
