Block CLOSE SALE OF BEEBIES. Ruesellville Growers Accept Terms Offered by D. E. Melkle. At the meeting of the Portland Fruit growers Association held in the Russell vllle schoolhouse last evening, the growers decided to accept the proposition of D. E. Melkle to take 80 per cent of their berries at the following prices: Strawberries, 4 cents; raspberries, 5 cents; blackberries, 3 cents, without regard to varieties. By acceptance of Mr. Meikle's offer the growers in a measure rescinded their action at a former meeting. They wanted Mr. Melkle to give a heavy bond, but he has given them sufficient assur ances that he will carry out his part of the agreement. A considerable number of the members signed the contract with the representative of Mr. Melkle, who was present, and the work of securing the other growers In the district will be taken up at once. By the terms of the contract the grower obligates himself to deliver a certain per cent of his berries, payment to be made weekly. A committee will assist in se curing signatures to the contract during this week. The growers have secured no terms from the cannerymen, and the latter do not know where they will get their ber ries this season. The Russellvllle district Is considered the" largest berry-producing section in Multno--mah County, and the membership of the association represents over 200 acres. It includes growers from MI1 waukie. Falrview, Gravel Hill, Lents and elsewhere, but the majority are from Russelvllle District. If Mr. Melkle gets 73 per cent of the strawberries, rasp berries and blackberries, as now seems probable, he will come pretty near get ting the cream of the output in Multno mah County. The association will hold another meet ing next Friday evening in the Russell ville schoolhouse to complete the busi ness. It is proposed to make the or ganization permanent. m , Oregon Day at the Fair. June 7 has been named as selling date for World's Fair tickets to St. Louis and Chicago, account dedication of the Ore gon building at the Exposition. Get tickets and berth reservations at the O.
