church which is to be held in this city

Tho colored man who lives up
rightly, deals honestly, works industri
ously and attends to his own business,
will command tho respect and good
will of all people whoso good opinion

The choir of tho Zion church is prac,
tislng faithfully for a concert to bo
given in tho near future for tho benollt
of tho church. In advance wo predict
a large attendance, as their ability is
so well known that it need no further
comment.
Mr. Holds sutlercd quite 11 finan
cial loss on last Tuesday morning, tho
gasoline stove in his restaurant explod
ing and setting lire to tho building.
All the contents were consumed, and
Mr. Holds was severely burned. As ho
had no insurance, tho Iosh falls heavily
on him. Ho hud only recently opened
up, and had invested all his ready cap
ital in tho business.
Tho A. M. K. Zlon church was in
corporated in 1801, and tho A. M. K.
in 1807, according to Bishop Walters,
but the first general convention of tint
latter church having been held in 1810,
llvo years prior to the general organiza
tion of tho Ziou, it is tlio oldest body.
The A. M. K. is admitted to bo tho
stronger numerically, and raises more
money, as their per capita assessment

lished in a recent interesting discus
sion between the Christian Recorder
and the Star of Zion.
Mrs. Lucy Thurmau, who him re

the manner in which she was received

by all well-thinking people, whether
