10 — THE BAKER COUNTY PRESS FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 2017 Local EORT to hold silent movie fundraiser The Eastern Oregon Regional Theatre will be holding a Silent Movie Fundraiser at the Iron Gate Theatre in Baker City on April 8th. Local pianist Keith Taylor will ac- company the classic W.C. Fields silent movie – “It’s the Old Army Game.” “This is an all new scor- ing of this movie,” said Taylor. He’s composed scores for 15 silent mov- ies, including “The Gold Rush,” starring Charlie Chaplain, one of Taylor’s favorites. He said it takes about a year to compose a score for a movie. According to Eastern Oregon Regional Theatre President Kelly Brick- man, Taylor graciously volunteered to present this movie in order to raise funds for the operat- ing costs of the Iron Gate Theatre. There will be two showings of the movie – one at 3 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event will be available at the door. The cost is $10 for all seats. “Every year the cost to put on a play rises and we would like to continue to provide affordable live theatre in Baker City,” said Brickman. “We would rather not raise ticket prices. In order to do that, we must do fundraising events such as this. We also apply for grants, seek local sponsors for our musical productions, accept advertisers in our programs, and rent out our theatre for meetings and visiting performers.” The movie will be held at the Iron Gate Theatre, upstairs in the Basche Sage Mall. The theatre has 45 seats which includes two wheelchair spaces. There will be an elevator opera- tor to take those patrons who do not wish to climb the stairs up to the theatre. There will also be refresh- ments for sale as well as music CDs and silent movie DVDs by Taylor.
