Patricia Elaine Beymer
Formerly of Baker City,
1923-2015
Patricia Elaine Beymer,
92, a former Baker City
resident, died September
20, 2015, at the Oregon
Veterans Home at The
Dalles.
Patricia was born on Au-
gust 28, 1923, in Klamath
Falls. Her parents, Burrell
and Elizabeth Short farmed
in Klamath County and
raised six children, Pat’s
three sisters and two broth-
ers.
Pat graduated from high
school in 1942. She at-
tended Oregon State
University for one year.
She and her high school
sweetheart, Fred Beymer,
her parents and Fred’s
parents met in San Diego
where Fred and Pat were
married on Feb. 19, 1944.
While Fred was away in
the Pacifi c during the war,
Pat gave birth to her fi rst
child. After the war Fred
and Pat purchased a house
and acreage from Pat’s fa-
ther and proceeded to raise
potatoes and children.
Their son Michel Fred’s
birth was followed by
the birth of Starla Sue,
Bill Patrick, Becky Jo
and Kelly Lee. They also
introduced their children to
rodeo and Pat was a mem-
ber of the Saddle Club,
a female counterpart to the
Sheriff’s Posse. She and
Fred rode in many parades
and rodeos in southern
Oregon.
She completed her col-
lege degree at Southern
Oregon College in Ash-
land, Oregon. Her teaching
career started in Klamath
Falls at Mills Elementary
school where she taught
second grade during the
week and spent weekends
on the road going to her
children’s basketball,
football, softball and rodeo
events until the family
moved to Sisters, Oregon.
It was in Sisters that Pat
started her career in one
and two room schools.
She taught in rural Oregon
schools in Tumalo, Camp
Sherman, Warm Springs,
Simnasho, Wamic and
Tygh Valley.
From Sisters, Pat and
Fred moved to Camp Sher-
man in 1964 where they
bought an A-frame restau-
rant and sold homemade
French fries, ice cream
and hamburgers during
the summer season. They
put their children to work
guiding trail rides and tak-
ing tourists into the Mount
Jefferson Wilderness on
pack trips. From Camp
Sherman, Fred and Pat
went to the Oregon Coast
where they had a pony ring
at the Pixieland amuse-
ment park. Their next
adventure was in Kahneeta
on the Warm Springs Res-
ervation where they again
put their horses to work
providing rides to guests of
the resort.
She retired in Oregon
and moved with Fred to
Nevada. There she took up
the reins again and taught
at Leonard Creek School,
then a year at Denio and
three years at Orovada
for the Humboldt County
School District. They
bought a house in Baker
City and commuted back
and forth from Orvada,
Nevada to Baker City on
weekends. They then per-
manently retired in Baker
City.
She leaves behind three
children: Starla, Bill and
Becky. She and Fred have
13 grandchildren and
22 great-grandchildren.
Patricia was preceded in
death by her husband, Fred
and her sons, Michael and
Kelly. Pat and Fred will be
together again in the Wil-
lamette National Cemetery
