The Brooklyn PTO has
once again orchestrated
an amazing fund raiser in
the form of a taco feed and
book fair.
The February 5 event,
which was held at the
Events Center, ran from
4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Participants could enjoy
an all-you-can-eat taco
dinner, purchase books, bid
on silent auction items and
have their name drawn for
a prize in the raffl e.
Betty Spooner vol-
unteered her time as the
emcee. The PTO with its
offi cers—President An-
gela Robb, Vice President
Cindy Chandler, Treasurer
Andi Jaca and Secretary
Amanda Morgan—started
work on the event in the
fall.
This team, along with
many other volunteer
parents and Brooklyn staff
worked throughout the
evening.
The Leadership Team
was present from Baker
Middle School, serving
food and waiting tables as
well as doing cleanup fol-
lowing the event.
During the weeks before
the taco feed, coin jars
were placed in the Brook-
lyn classrooms.
Students could vote, us-
ing their coins, on the attire
worn by Mrs. O’Neal on
the day of the taco feed.
O’Neal, an Oregon
State University alum,
had hoped the Beaver jars
would bring in the most
money, but the students de-
cided that she was to wear
the colors of the University
of Oregon Ducks.
A good sport, O’Neal
conceded and wore the
green and yellow with
style.
Kids and parents were
obviously having fun, and
the auction item winners
were announced to much
in the way of cheers and
good natured teasing.
“I’ve got my pickup,
just load it up,” shouted
one of the non-winning
dads about neighbors win-
ning a nice BBQ, “I’ll test
it out for you, make sure
everything works!”
In total, 1,300 tacos
were sold, contributing to
the $17,000 raised after
expenses.
