The Daily Gazette wants and
expects to print all the news;
that is, all the news that's fit to
pi int. In order to do this it
asks the people of Corvaliis to
help in every way possil le to
make this paper the brightest
and best little local daily in the
state. This can easily be done
by sending in everything in the
way of news. The coming and
going and visits of relatives and
friends, church activities, club
doings, social events, fraternal
notes, sporting and athletic fea
tures, realty transactions, hap
penings and improvements at
home and throughout the city.
Every item is grist that comes
to the daily mill and it will" be
ground out in as newsy shape as
j possible. . Don't think that any
happening is too trivial to
chronicle. It may appear so at
first sight and yet contain the
material for a good story. Tele
phone, write or call with all the
news vou have. It will be fullv
appreciated.

It is with the confident beli?f
that Corvaliis now has a popula
tion sufficiently large and intel
ligent enough to appreciate, and
a business community extensive
and progressive enough to liber
ally support a livelocal daily
'paper that the Daily Gazette be
gins publication and offers itself
to the public for that approval
and patronage which it hopes to
merit and receive.
As a man is known by the
company he keeps, so a city is
gauged by the character of its
newspapers, especially from the
outside, and there is hardly a
-community the size and import
ance of Corvaliis anywhere in
the Pacific Northwest that does
not maintain a good daily paper.
-Such a publication always im
proves the reputation of the city

ous school house near the Alsea
store. If the petitions are granted
by the court the clerk of each
district will be authorized by the
boundary board of the county to
submit it at the June election.
If a majority vote should be ob
tained" in each district it will
make the new district thus form
ed the largest in the county with
a taxable wealth of at least $800,
000 thus affording ample funds
with which to equip and main
tain a fine graded school. This
question was before the court
lasi fall and much interest man-,
ifested and will no doubt com
mand much attention at the
final decision in June. .
Mrs. M. Henkle has sold her residence
property on South Second street to J.
J. Houser. Mr. Houser will at once
lay new cement ; walks to conform to
the' new ordinance and in the near fu
ture will erect a business house on the
corner. ' ; .
