According to a plan agreed

seed trade and representatives
o f the United States Department

last year, seed dealers will pro
vide the following Information
with all lots o f ten pounds or

they sell :
1. Name o f seedsman.
2. Kind of seed.
3. Proportion o f pure live seed
present, with month and year of

4. Country or locality o f or

and much of the seed is o f poorer qual
ity than in normal years. Therefore,
every farmer before sowing should
know what proportion of the seed he
buys cannot be expected to grow. I f
one lot contains 90 per cent o f seed
that will grow and another lot con
tains 64 per cent o f seed that will grow
It will take three bushels of the 64 per
cent seed to sow the same number o f
acres thnt two bushels of the 90 per
cent w ill sow.
This Is Important from the stand
point o f cost alone when red clover
seed Is selling for |20 or more p er
bushel. It Is much more necessary,
however, to know the quality o f seed
in order that the rate o f seeding may
be proportional to the quality, ao that
enough live seed w ill be sowed to In
sure a stand in the field. First know
how much o f the seed may grow and
then sow accordingly.
