SILVERTON APPEAL TRIBUNE
On Aug. 14, residents gathered to
celebrate its first century as an in-
corporated city with horse-drawn
wagon rides, vintage cars, farm equip-
ment and fire trucks on display and a
homecoming potluck.
Members of the Marion County
Sheriff’s Office participated in the
dedication of the old Scotts Mills jail,
which is adjacent to the historical
museum. A potluck picnic in the city
park and an anniversary program
followed.

A 1-acre piece of land adjoining Sil-
verton High School is now under con-
tract with the Silver Falls School Dis-
trict. The school board voted Aug. 8 to
pay $290,000 to buy the lot at 617 Grant
Street.
In discussion this summer, board
members mentioned using the land for
parking of for future facilities. The land
abuts campus and was brought to the
board’s attention because the owners
had signed a right of first refusal with
the district.
At the Aug. 8 meeting, Supt. Andy
Bellando was authorized to enter into an
earnest money agreement with proper-
ty owners Lori Douglas and David Moul-
ter.
He’ll complete the deal, only re-ap-
proaching the board if costs to the dis-
trict rise more than 10 percent.
