OREGON The hop season in Oregon started last week with an army of over 10,000 people who will earner the crop this year. The crop this year will amount to about 130000 bales, which is valued at $5,000,000, this placing Oregon first among all the hop producing states in the union, averaging about 40 per cent of the total output of the United States. The crop is of a better quality than for years past, according to promi nent growers. Growers are ex pecting big prices for their crops this year, quite a number having contracted their output for 20 cents a pound. Last weeks rains, while temporarily embarrassing the pick ers, greatly benefitted the hops in both quality and weight. Each of Oregon's varied Indus tries was represented at a meeting of the 1915 Fair Commission held at the Portland Commercial Club last Friday. Sentiment ex pressed seemed to favor appealing to each of the several counties of the state for exhibits of local products, but net to make county exhibits at the fair; to use the best and most representative exhibits, not in the Oregon building, but in the buildings set aside for special purposes, where the state's product ill come into competition with those of other states and countries; to present as much life and anima tion in the Oregon building exhibits as possible, and tn offer moving picture exhibits of the various in dustries of the state, so that visi and entertained there; to nerve con I Oregon proilucU, and to emphasize those advantages most likely to in duce the plain people to establixh their future homes in the state.
