6 Wednesday, April 19, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Boys golf continues to struggle By Rongi Yost Correspondent On Monday, April 10, seven teams participated in the annual Bend Invitational Golf Tournament held at Bend Country Club. Brisk, windy weather cleared and golfers enjoyed a calm and sunny afternoon of golf. Summit took top honors with a team score of 318, and Bend was runner-up with a 327. Remaining scores were: Hermiston (341); Crook County (384); Mt. View (384); Redmond (397); and Sisters (469). It was a long day for the Outlaws, who struggled throughout the round. Andrew Mayes posted Sisters’ best round of the day, with a 56-53-109, and Wyatt Hernandez shot a 58-55-113. Kade Owen had a very rough front nine (70), but came back and posted a 53 on the back to finish at 123. First- timers Ryan Waddell and Peyton Myhre hung in there and posted scores of 124 and 139 respectively. “It was a tough day,” said Coach Bill Mitchell. “The two-week break and lousy weather didn’t help. I was hoping the seniors would play better, but we will improve.” Four days later, the Outlaws played in fabulous weather conditions on the beautiful Broken Top course. “The kids enjoyed the walk, but just tolerated the golf,” said Mitchell. “We posted some large numbers on various holes, which we need to eliminate. Austin Lake came back after break- ing his leg during basketball and did give us a boost.” Lake led the team with a score of 104, followed by Mayes who posted a 109. Kade Owen recorded a 116, Wyatt Hernandez shot a 128, and Patrick Dingeman fin- ished at 183. “It was nice to have Austin back in the line-up,” said Mitchell. “He had five pars in the round, but unfor- tunately had two holes that were a nine and an eleven. With just a little course management I think we can eliminate most of the high numbers. All in all, it was a nice effort. This is definitely a tough game!” The Outlaws were to play on Tuesday, April 18, at the Prineville Country Club. CELEBRATING 20 YEARS! GOLF & GRILL Enjoy a round of golf every day. Matt Harris and Cole Pade both recorded six ground balls, and Sam Mitchell played a solid game on the defensive end. Hermiston out-shot the Outlaws 55-26. Sisters con- tinued to improve on reducing their turnovers, and finished with a season low of 25. Warburton played great in the goal, and finished with 17 saves, several which were from point-blank range. Patton said, “Overall, the team continues to learn and improve despite coming up short on the scoreboard. The offense did a better job of moving the ball around and getting good shots, and our transition got better in both directions.” Sisters was to play at Summit on Tuesday, April 18. On Friday, April 21, the Outlaws are scheduled to play at home against Wilsonville. OUTLAW FOOTBALL PRESENTS doesn’t happen by chance. It happens by appointment.
