Living in boggy grassy areas, the Lincoln’s feeds on beetles, moths, mayflies and leafhoppers during the April-to-August breeding season. The remainder of the year seeds, buds and inver- tebrates are primary food sources. In June a small nest is built of sedge, grasses, and soft hairs, three to five pale blue eggs are laid which hatch in 10-13 days. In 11 days the chicks are ready to fly. The Lincoln’s sparrow song is a warbler-like trill that is sung frequently throughout the breeding season. John J. Audubon named the Lincoln’s sparrow in 1833 after a friend’s son, Tom Lincoln. The Lady Outlaws couldn’t recoup from their slow start against the White Buffaloes at home on Tuesday, December 8, and lost the contest 52-37. Sisters went down 15-7 in the first quarter, and by the half trailed Madras 25-13. The Outlaws did much better in the second half, and were only outscored by three points. Sisters did have trou- ble at the line, and only made 13 of their 30 free-throw attempts. On the positive side, the Outlaws played responsible defense, and only committed 11 fouls for the game, despite aggressive defensive play. “We need to improve on our defensive transi- tion, forcing teams to play against a set-defense, and we need to reward our- selves with rebounds after good defensive effort,” said Coach Casey Pallister. “But, it was a definite step forward for us.” The Outlaws’ posts con- tinue to improve in their technique and physicality, and Pallister noted that Jules Meeter has really stepped up her game.
