Christmas Parade is on Main Avenue this year

Sisters is getting set to
swing into the saddle for its
annual celebration of the sea-
son: A Cowboy Christmas.
The celebration employs all
of Sisters’ small-town charm
and has become a favorite
family tradition for fami-
lies — those who live here
and those who are visiting
for Thanksgiving weekend
alike.
This year, there will be
some temporary changes to
work around the beginning of
construction work on Hood
Avenue. The annual Sisters
Christmas Parade set for
Saturday, November 28, at
2 p.m., will be held on Main
Avenue instead of its tradi-
tional Hood Avenue route this
year.
“The City is going to be
doing some work on Hood
and the initial phase that
requires rewiring the light
poles will be taking place dur-
ing that timeframe,” Sisters
Area Chamber of Commerce
Executive Director Judy
Trego explained.

Trego and parade coordi-
nator Jeri Buckmann empha-
sized that the change in
parade route is temporary.
“We do plan to move it
back to Hood,” Trego said.
Buckmann says she
expects between 30 and
35 entrants in the parade.
Deadline for entry is
November 18.
The parade will stage on
Pine Street, proceed down
Main Avenue, then turn north
on Larch and head back up
Adams Avenue. KSJJ radio
will have a live remote broad-
cast going from 11:30 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. Bob Buckmann
will serve in his traditional
role as parade announcer.
“The theme this year
is Red, White and Blue
Christmas,” said Jeri
Buckmann. “We are dedicat-
ing it to the men and women
of the military.”
The parade will close
as it always does — with
Santa and Mrs. Clause roll-
ing down the street in a car-
riage provided by Black Butte
Ranch. He will adjourn to the
Chamber Visitors Center at
the corner of Main Avenue
and Larch Street (right next to
Fir Street Park, where he will

visit with children after the
parade. Refreshments will be
provided.
Sisters’ annual treelight-
ing ceremony will be held on
Friday, November 27, starting
at 5:30 p.m. in Fir Street Park.
For the first time, the event
will feature music performed
by students from Sisters High
School’s Americana Project.
Bring a can of food for dona-
tion to the Sisters Kiwanis
Food Bank. Sisters Lions
Club will be on hand to pro-
vide refreshments and there
will be a bonfire in the park’s
fire cauldron.
The Chamber is also
facilitating Letters to Santa
this year. Letters are to be
dropped off at the Chamber
office to be forwarded on
to the North Pole. Include a
name and return address so
that Santa can reply.
